On December 10th, 2009 all people in the world celebrate Human Rights Day. In Indonesia, all mass media and television networks report actual news around us - about people who experience human rights deviation. Some of these people represent only a small fraction of the millions people in Indonesia.
Probably there's a lot more common people who have the same fate, but the cases not detected by our mass media. Human rights of these people had been deviated by rogue elements of government or upper classes people or institutions, who claim that they 'only do the obligations and responsibilities'.
One hot topics being discussed today is the case of Prita Mulyasari who was demanded by Omni International Hospital, for the defamation conducted by Prita's electronic mail (on the internet). Final decision imposed by the court to this mother of two toddlers, is he was required to pay a sum of 204 million rupiah to the Omni International Hospital. It is regrettable to hear things like this may still be happened in our beloved country of Indonesia. A Nation which is based on the first two precepts of Pancasila, which declare the belief of our nation to one God, also the Just and Civilized Humanity. They are described about our country is a nation who believe in the One and Only God and how our consciences have respects to each other as human beings, also in giving a fair decision and uphold the human civility in our country.
But thank God, because nowadays our society was also quite critical and do not stay still when saw injustices happening in the midst of us. For example, one form of their concern to Prita Mulyasari's case is by coin collecting to support Prita. All people from the pedicab drivers, housewives until the elementary students came to donate the coins to show their concern to Prita. As this article was made, coins that have been collected in the main post have already amounted to 151 million rupiahs. Even before Fahmi Idris, from the Indonesian Doctors Association also donated money amount 102 million Rupiahs to Prita. It means, it's a real fact that our society still has a high level of appreciation to the Indonesian Human Rights. Yes, it was actually still there.
Not only Prita who's being the victim of human rights violations. Do not forget also about the fate of our TKI (Indonesian overseas workers) who also become the victims of Human Rights violations, and several other cases that may not be as lucky as Prita. The difference is only in whether or not the cases are being exposed to public.
Whatever is happening around us right now, whoever we are, and whatever level of our position in community, as the Indonesian nation we must strongly have this one basic principle. It is : Do never ever forget about who we really are and where we came from. About our nature as the Indonesian people, who fear and believe in God Almighty. Thus we will always respect the freedom of every human being in Indonesia to be treated equally, listened to and respected. As the wise man said "If you want to be treated well, treat the same thing to everyone as you wish to be treated that way."
